July 6th, We packed a lunch for a days drive to Bear Tooth Highway Scenic
Drive. Left at 9 am and headed for the east gate of Yellowstone. We stopped at
different places along the way. Going thru the gate about 1/2 mile we see a
black bear cross the road and into the forest.
Then to Silver Gate and Cooke City, two little
villages that dated way back and a lot of log cabin stores and gift shops along
Main St. We stopped and looked around and bought Ice Cream for a snack. Gas was
$4.00 here for Regular, pay it or run out ?
We continued on to Bear Tooth Highway.. stopping at Top
of the World Store also. Then up..up..up.. and we see snow along the road. They
had 14” of snow 2 weeks ago. The snow plows and Blowers were still parked along
the road. At the to we saw an Argosy trailer being used for a ski lift
office/bathroom. We could still see the ski tracks on the mountains, but the
snow is melting quickly. We drove a lot of switchbacks all around the mountains,
new sights at every turn.
Then at the end we arrived at Red Lodge and headed for
Cody to see Airstream friends that are there for the start of Landmarks West
Caravan. There were 30 of them there getting ready for the take off... We said
quick hellos and good-byes as it was getting dark and we had 100 miles to go
back to West Yellowstone yet tonight. we arrived back at camp at 10 pm , very
TIRED..only 370 miles today...Here are pictures of the day ... enjoy... https://picasaweb.google.com/AirstreamHobo/TripToBearToothHighway7614#
